Marriage is friendship through every season of life

There is something beautiful about a husband and wife who are not only married to each other but are genuinely friends.

Friendship in marriage is more than laughter, pictures or travelling. It is the deep assurance that, “I have someone with whom I can walk through life; someone who knows me, stands with me, challenges me, prays with me, and will not abandon me when the road becomes difficult.”

This photograph, taken at the just-concluded Christian Couples Fellowship (CCF) Couples’ Retreat at Miango Rest Home, 13–15 August 2026, captures more than happiness. It captures partnership, friendship, covenant and a shared journey.

The retreat centred on a profound question: How do we continue to serve the LORD as a family, even in challenging times? And as Scripture reminds us, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).

The strength of a Christian home is not measured by the absence of challenges. Every family will face seasons of pressure; financial difficulties, parenting struggles, disappointments, unanswered prayers, health concerns, demanding responsibilities, misunderstandings and seasons when serving God requires sacrifice.

The question is not whether challenges will come, but who will we become to each other when they do?

The retreat at Miango reminded us that serving the LORD as a family will not always be easy. But perhaps God never promised that it would be easy. He promised that He would be with us. So, may our marriages become friendships that can withstand the storms of life; friendships rooted in Christ, strengthened by love and sustained by the grace of God.

This year’s Retreat was a beautiful time in the Lord’s presence where couples experienced renewal. There were lovely times of interaction, prayer, and deep fellowship that strengthened bonds.
