From the Brink of Separation to Celebration

Their story, the wife testified, is a testimony of God’s goodness and mercy—a journey through storms that threatened their marriage, a long season of waiting for a child, and moments when all hope seemed to fade. Yet, through every chapter, they said, God gave them victory

Kyun and Plangnan Samuel married as believers on 18 December 2021. During their wedding preparations and shortly after, the family of Barrister Henry Bok invited them to join the Christian Couples Fellowship (CCF). They did not take the invitation seriously. They believed that, as Christians, they would be spared the challenges that confront marriages.

A year into their marriage, however, they encountered a storm that shook the foundation of their home and brought them close to separation. Communication broke down, grievances accumulated, and unresolved disputes created tension. They became defensive, found fault in each other and, instead of confronting the real issues, gradually allowed them to create a wall between them.

Realising that the situation was beyond what they could resolve on their own, they sought help. They were referred to Rev. Dr. David Pofi, who counselled and prayed with them, grounding their advice in biblical and practical principles and giving them assignments to help rebuild their relationship.

They were also encouraged them to join CCF, leading them to Group 1 in Jos Zone, then led by Barrister Henry Bok and his wife. From there, their journey with the fellowship began.

Through continued fellowship, they grew spiritually and learned from God’s Word and from older couples whose own experiences had taught them how to navigate the storms of marriage. Gradually, stability returned to their home, and they began to grow together as a couple.

Then came another storm: the longing for a child. What initially appeared to be a simple delay gradually became a complex medical journey. They consulted several doctors and visited different hospitals. Tests revealed a high prolactin level, uterine polyps, and later an intrauterine fibroid. She underwent procedures, including the removal of the polyps and ovarian drilling, and later went through four cycles of ovulation induction, all without success.

Their hope was tested again when another pregnancy ended after barely two months. Further examination revealed that one of her fallopian tubes was blocked. At one point, even the consultant who had been attending to them stopped responding to their messages, leaving them with unanswered questions and uncertainty.

Then came the 2025 CCF Annual Retreat. They arrived at the retreat carrying their hopes and placing their trust in God, whom they regarded as their only remaining hope. They received in faith the prayers offered by the guest speaker, Dr. Segun Falope.

Barely two months later, in September/October 2025, they received the news they had long prayed for: a positive pregnancy result. Their joy, however, was accompanied by continued dependence on God. Throughout the pregnancy, there were no major complications, which they regarded as another testimony of His faithfulness. After eight months, a surgical delivery was planned following careful medical assessment.

On 19 May 2026, however, another crisis arose. According to the medical team, shortly after the anaesthetic was administered, the mother’s blood pressure suddenly fell to 47/22, creating a critical situation. The medical team intensified efforts to stabilise her while urgently delivering the baby. After the baby was delivered, the mother was stabilised, but attention quickly shifted to the newborn, who was found to have dangerously low blood sugar.

Through it all, the couple said prayers continued, and once again, God came through for them. Today, they celebrate the gift of their son, Eliel RhiTse Samuel, with hearts overflowing with gratitude. Looking back, the wife said their journey has taught them that some battles are too great for human strength, but never too great for God. What began with a marriage on the brink of separation became a story of restoration; what became a long and painful wait for a child ended in the joy of parenthood.

The couple expressed deep gratitude to God for the gift of CCF and particularly to members and the leadership for standing with them throughout their waiting season, and the entire CCF family for creating a community where couples can find encouragement, grow together and pursue God’s purpose for their families.

Their testimony is simple: the storms were real, the waiting was long, but God’s mercy was greater.
