Couples Retreat Urges Families to Follow Christ

More than 100 Christian couples from across Nigeria gathered at the serene Miango Rest Home in Plateau State from August 13–16, 2026, for the annual Christian Couples Fellowship (CCF) Retreat.

Themed “Following Jesus Christ as a Family in Challenging Times,” the retreat focused on strengthening marriages and restoring Christian values amid Nigeria’s growing socio-economic pressures and the challenges confronting the family institution.

The Fellowship said the retreat was designed to provide couples with opportunities for reflection, fellowship and spiritual renewal, while encouraging husbands and wives to build stronger relationships based on God’s Word. The programme also emphasized raising godly children and strengthening the family as a foundation for the Church and society.

Speaking at the event, keynote speaker Rev. Prof. Pic Onwochei said marriage does not automatically guarantee a successful relationship, particularly when couples face challenges such as infertility, financial difficulties and emotional struggles.

Citing the biblical account of Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 25:12 and 25:22, Onwochei urged couples to remain patient and supportive of one another during difficult periods rather than resorting to blame. He encouraged couples to see challenging moments as opportunities to seek God’s intervention and strengthen their relationship.

Another speaker, Prof. Mrs. Modupe Onwochei, called on couples to remain committed to each other in both good and difficult times. She described marriage as a continuous “welding process,” urging couples to manage available resources wisely and take responsibility for nurturing their families in the Christian faith.

The retreat opened with a charge by the CCF Board of Trustees Chairman, Rev. Dr. David Pofi, who urged couples to remain committed to Christ-centred family values, while the National Coordinator welcomed couples to the annual gathering.

Other activities included leisure games, a question-and-answer session, the Annual General Meeting and updates on the proposed CCF Village Project in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area, which began in 2015. Reports from the CCF Village Building and the Fundraising Committees were also presented and adopted.

The Fellowship said the retreat remains a platform for couples to encourage one another in faith, strengthen family bonds and promote peaceful, Christ-centred homes.
